WCF Scholars Pascual and Sargent represent Walker College Campus at All Alabama

Walker College Foundation scholars Diego Pascual and Jonathan Sargent were recently chosen by faculty and staff to represent the Walker College Campus at the 2017 All Alabama (All State)/All USA Academic Competition. Two students from each campus of Bevill State are nominated for the competition. Only two will be selected to represent the entire college in the All USA Academic Competition.

Pascual is in his second year at Bevill State and is planning to transfer to a four year university in May to continue his degree in Biomedical Engineering. His future plans include Dentistry school. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Bevill State Leadership Society.

Sargent is also in his second year at Bevill State and is planning to transfer to UAB in May to continue his degree in Electrical Engineering. Sargent is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Bevill State Leadership Society.

Phi Theta Kappa, community college presidents and community college state associations sponsor All-State Community College Academic Team ceremonies in 38 participating states. Students from the 38 participating states nominated to the All-USA Community College Academic Team are automatically named to the All-State Community College Academic Teams. Ranking on the All-State Community College Academic Teams is generally determined by the student's score in the national competition.

The All-USA Community College Academic Team recognizes high achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Twenty team members are named annually with each receiving a $5,000 scholarship, a total of $100,000 in scholarship awards. In addition to scholarships, team members are featured in the USA TODAY newspaper and presented at the annual President’s Breakfast held during the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention.

The program is sponsored by Follett Higher Education Group and presented by USA TODAY with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.

Nominees to the All-USA Community College Academic Team may also be considered for the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, New Century Scholars and All-State Community College Academic Teams when applicable.
